Welcome, Westphalia DataLab!
Westphalia DataLab (WDL) is a software development and consulting start-up specializing in Data Science with deep expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning. Founded in 2017, WDL today employs 55 people at its locations in Münster, Berlin and Munich.
Within the scope of its own data science consultancy “Data Activation”, individual customer solutions ranging from route optimization for logisticians to intelligent micro-segmentation for marketing teams are implemented according to customer requirements. In addition, WDL also offers turnkey software-as-a-service products. Thus, in addition to the forecasting solution “Westphalia Forecast”, the marketing & sales software “Sales Suite” is now part of the SaaS product portfolio of the Westphalia DataLab.
Shortly after its founding, we became aware of WDL through our market study on the topic of “Industrial Machine Learning”, because the at that time still small Münster-based startup was convincing with its work across the board and could already be awarded by us in 2019 as a champion for machine learning. An award that was to be followed by several more, and not only from us, as in 2020 the startup received the German AI Award in the Application category and just one year later they were named a “Successful Practice” company together with Vorwerk as part of our Customer Insights Study.
Enabling data-based decisions in the manufacturing sector
Data science is already being used in many ways in numerous companies to control and optimize the quality, processes and performance of the manufacturing of their products in a data-driven manner. However, there is often a lack of know-how, resources and successful operationalization.
The aim of the partnership is to start precisely there. To consolidate and expand the understanding of data science and artificial intelligence in the manufacturing industry.
The first step in this direction was already taken last year, when the WDL team contributed a lecture to our RWTH-certified course “Digital Product Manager”. The positive feedback made us aware of how important it is for the manufacturing industry to build up sound knowledge in this sector, because companies often have only rudimentary basic knowledge, which hinders the successful implementation of a data analytics project.
Together we want to help to make dependencies, areas of application and the added value of data analytics understandable. Supporting the collection of appropriate data through targeted data screening to feasibility testing and providing value-added support in the selection of the appropriate business case, the implementation of data science and AI solutions and anchoring this knowledge in the company. All of this in our new course “Industrial Data Analytics”, which imparts the knowledge in 2 webinars and an Experience Day and thus forms the right basis for establishing data-driven decision-making and corporate alignment.
Using data where the customer can gain benefit from it
The Westphalia DataLab develops its solutions closely to the needs of its customers. Together we want to grow and intensify the cooperation. As a network of specialists, our community brings together the ideas and needs from the industry and thus provides intensive support in the development of new solutions and formats. Also enthusiastic about the presentation possibilities of the community, the Westphalia Data Lab will of course be present at our 25th Dienstleistungsforum on 16.03.
